Published research covers ischemic stroke, traumatic brain injury, cognitive impairment, optic nerve conditions and attention-related measures. Much of the human evidence comes from small trials conducted in one country, which limits how far the results generalize. Animal models supply the larger share of the data, and effects seen in rodents do not transfer automatically to people. Reviews have noted that methodological reporting is often incomplete, making it difficult to pool results or compare treatment schedules across studies.
Pharmacokinetic accounts emphasize rapid breakdown. After intravenous dosing the intact peptide disappears from blood within minutes, and nasal delivery produces low but measurable concentrations. Metabolites rather than the parent molecule may account for part of the observed activity, although the relative contribution is unresolved. Dosing in the literature varies widely and no optimal schedule has been agreed. These gaps are regularly cited as a reason the findings have not produced broad clinical adoption beyond the original research setting.

Circulation time for the peptide is short because peptidases cleave it readily. The Pro-Gly-Pro tail is thought to slow breakdown compared with the bare ACTH fragment, but the gain appears modest. Absorption after intranasal dosing is limited, and only a fraction of a dose is expected to reach the central nervous system. Laboratory concentrations therefore sit well above levels achieved systemically, a gap that complicates translation from bench findings to clinical claims.
The mechanisms attributed to semax are inferred from animal and cell studies rather than traced to one confirmed target. The most frequently cited pathway involves increased expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor in hippocampal and cortical tissue. Some work points to engagement of melanocortin receptors, particularly MC4, which the parent ACTH fragment can activate. Effects on dopaminergic and serotonergic signalling have also been reported. No single account explains all observed results, and the relative weight of each pathway remains unsettled.
Published research has focused mainly on neurological and cognitive endpoints in animal models, with proposed mechanisms involving brain-derived neurotrophic factor and related signalling pathways. A substantial share of the human data originates from a limited number of research groups, and independent replication in other countries remains sparse. Regulatory status reflects that distribution: the peptide is registered as a medicine in Russia and appears in some neighbouring markets, while elsewhere it is handled as a research chemical without approved therapeutic labelling. Questions about dose-response relationships, long-term effects, and comparability across studies are still open.
Lyophilised powder is normally kept at -20 °C in a desiccated container, with some suppliers recommending -80 °C for long-term archival storage. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are the most common cause of avoidable loss, so aliquoting before freezing reduces variability between working sessions. Dissolved peptide is far less stable than the dry solid and is usually prepared fresh or held briefly at 4 °C. Aqueous solutions support both hydrolysis of the backbone and oxidation of the N-terminal methionine, and these two routes dominate degradation under ordinary laboratory conditions.
Identity and purity are confirmed with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, typically monitored at 214 nanometres where the peptide bond absorbs. Mass spectrometry, either electrospray or MALDI-TOF, verifies molecular mass against the theoretical value and detects truncation or adduct formation. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping provide additional confirmation when required. The most frequently reported impurities are deletion sequences from incomplete coupling, methionine sulfoxide from oxidation, and dimeric species formed through non-covalent aggregation. Impurity profiles depend strongly on the synthesis and purification route chosen by the producer.
== Measurement == All the major indicators mentioned in the table are numerically measurable in a laboratory or otherwise but, for many, high values are also injurious to health just as are low values. This affects the exact measurement of positive health. The optimal levels of most of these parameters are not known – thus a scale to exactly measure the level of positive health of a person is yet to be developed. However, there are parameters such as endorphins, semen quality in men, FEV1/FVC ratio, oxygen saturation, bone density, P3 amplitude, and handGrip strength whose increased value progressively indicates a better positive health.
In January 2024, a preliminary review conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed no evidence had been found to suggest that the medicine causes suicidal thoughts or actions. In June 2025, the European Medicines Agency recommended that the product information for semaglutide medicines be updated to include non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) as a very rare side effect, while the World Health Organization concluded that the risk management plan for semaglutide should be revised to include NAION as a potential risk. A 2025 observational study reported a modest increased risk of a serious eye condition in people with diabetes taking glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. The analysis found that individuals using the medications had a slightly higher incidence of neovascular age-related macular degeneration compared to similar individuals not on the medications. In the STEP-HFpEF trial including people with obesity and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, weight loss was associated with improvements in heart failure symptoms and functional capacity. An observational study on people with obesity and type 2 diabetes and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, semaglutide had about a 42% lower risk of hospitalization for heart failure and all-cause death combined compared with sitagliptin.
=== Use by non-military groups === Terrorist groups have used C-4 worldwide in acts of terrorism and insurgency, as well as domestic terrorism and state terrorism. On May 13, 1985, the Philadelphia Police Department dropped a C-4 bomb on the home of the MOVE organization, killing eleven people — including five children — and wiping out 61 homes in two city blocks in a subsequent fire. Composition C-4 is recommended in al-Qaeda's traditional curriculum of explosives training. In October 2000, the group used C-4 to attack the USS Cole, killing 17 sailors. In 1996, Saudi Hezbollah terrorists used C-4 to blow up the Khobar Towers, a U.S. military housing complex in Saudi Arabia. Composition C-4 has also been used in improvised explosive devices by Iraqi insurgents.
Following Alice in Chains' extensive 1993 world tour, Staley said the band "just wanted to go into the studio for a few days with our acoustic guitars and see what happened." "We never really planned on the music we made at that time to be released. But the record label heard it and they really liked it. For us, it was just the experience of four guys getting together in the studio and making some music." Columbia Records released Alice in Chains' second acoustic-based EP, Jar of Flies, on January 25, 1994. Written and recorded in one week, Jar of Flies debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming the first EP—and first Alice in Chains release—to top the charts. Paul Evans of Rolling Stone called the EP "darkly gorgeous", and Steve Huey said, "'Jar of Flies' is a low-key stunner, achingly gorgeous and harrowingly sorrowful all at once." Jar of Flies features Alice in Chains' first number-one single on the Mainstream Rock charts, "No Excuses". The second single, "I Stay Away", reached number ten on the Mainstream rock charts, while the final single "Don't Follow", reached number 25. Jar of Flies has been certified triple platinum by the RIAA, with over 2 million copies sold in the United States during its first year. Jar of Flies received two Grammy nominations, Best Hard Rock Performance for "I Stay Away", and Best Recording Package. After the release of Jar of Flies, Staley entered rehab for heroin addiction.
== Food Packet, Long Range Patrol == A freeze-dried, dehydrated ration, the FPIC required 1+1⁄2 U.S. pints (700 milliliters) of water to cook and reconstitute it. This was not a problem where water supplies were plentiful. However, the water sources in Vietnam were usually teeming with parasites such as blood flukes and tapeworms, as well as viruses, so the water had to be boiled or mixed with iodine tablets, the latter leaving an unwanted taste in a ration. Fresh water could also be collected from rainwater or, in an emergency, a LRP ration could be consumed 'dry', but the soldier doing so had to consume extra water to prevent dehydration. Some soldiers mixed its contents with MCI rations to reduce monotony and to supply extra dietary energy, as the ration was insufficient for an active soldier. However, this defeated the purpose of deploying the LRP ration in the first place. Another complaint was the absence of cigarettes found in C-rations. Due to these drawbacks, the original concept of its wide adoption was shelved in favor of its limited use by Special Operations units like the Long Range Patrols, Special Forces, and Navy SEALs. It then acquired the new designation of Food Packet, Long Range Patrol (LRP), also known as "Lurp meals" or "long rats". Production was limited to five million units in 1967, rising to just nine million in 1968. It was considered a novelty by line soldiers, who usually "acquired" as many as they could before going on field operations.

== Theories of well-being == Theories of well-being aim to identify the essential features or components that different forms of well-being have in common. They focus on the intrinsic nature of well-being, rather than external causes or conventional indicators used to measure it. For example, money and medicine can contribute to well-being as external causes but are not themselves forms of well-being. A traditionally influential approach categorizes theories of well-being into hedonism, desire theories, and objective list theories. This classification does not cover all theories, and the different categories are not always mutually exclusive. In some cases, distinct theories recommend different lifestyles, while in others, they advocate for the same lifestyle but provide different reasons why it is good.
Hypoglycemia, also known as "low blood sugar", is when blood sugar decreases to below normal levels. This may result in a variety of symptoms including clumsiness, trouble talking, confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures or death. A feeling of hunger, sweating, shakiness and weakness may also be present. Symptoms typically come on quickly. The most common cause of hypoglycemia is medications used to treat diabetes such as insulin and sulfonylureas. Risk is greater in diabetics who have eaten less than usual, exercised more than usual or have consumed alcohol. Other causes of hypoglycemia include kidney failure, certain tumors, such as insulinoma, liver disease, hypothyroidism, starvation, inborn error of metabolism, severe infections, reactive hypoglycemia and a number of drugs including alcohol. Low blood sugar may occur in otherwise healthy babies who have not eaten for a few hours.
==== North America ==== In Canada, diamorphine is a controlled substance under Schedule I of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). Any person seeking or obtaining diamorphine without disclosing authorization 30 days before obtaining another prescription from a practitioner is guilty of an indictable offense and subject to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years. Possession of diamorphine for the purpose of trafficking is an indictable offense and subject to imprisonment for life. In the United States, diamorphine is a Schedule I drug according to the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, making it illegal to possess without a DEA license. Possession of more than 100 grams of diamorphine or a mixture containing diamorphine is punishable with a minimum mandatory sentence of five years of imprisonment in a federal prison. In 2021, the US state of Oregon became the first state to decriminalize the use of heroin after voters passed Ballot Measure 110 in 2020. This measure will allow people with small amounts to avoid arrest.
Lastly, the valine residue may help maintain the hydrophobic core of the toxin. Similar to other α-neurotoxins within the three-finger toxin family, α-bungarotoxin exhibits a tertiary structure that is characterized by three projecting "finger" loops, a C-terminal tail, and a small globular core stabilized by four disulfide bonds. Notably, an additional disulfide bond is present in the second loop, facilitating a proper binding through the mobility of the tips of fingers I and II. Furthermore, hydrogen bonds contribute to the formation of an antiparallel β-sheet, maintaining the parallel orientation of the second and third loops. The structural integrity of the three-finger toxin is preserved by four of the disulfide bridges, while the fifth bridge, located on the tip of the second loop, can be reduced without compromising toxicity. The α-bungarotoxin polypeptide chain shows significant sequence homology with other neurotoxins from cobra and sea snake venoms, particularly with the α-toxin from Naja nivea. Comparing α-bungarotoxin with these homologous toxins from cobra and sea snake venoms, it was revealed that there is a high degree of conservation in certain residues. For instance, there are 18 constant residues, which include the eight half-cysteines, that are observed in all toxin sequences. Therefore, α-bungarotoxin shares common structural motifs with other toxins of the three-fingered family.
=== Cost === While the cost of the medication buprenorphine/naloxone is greater than buprenorphine alone, one analysis predicted the overall costs would be less in the United States due to a lower risk of misuse.

Alteplase binds to fibrin in a blood clot and activates the clot-bound plasminogen. Alteplase cleaves plasminogen at the site of its Arg561-Val562 peptide bond to form plasmin. Plasmin is a fibrinolytic enzyme that cleaves the cross-links between polymerized fibrin molecules, causing the blood clot to break down and dissolve, a process called fibrinolysis.
In the late 19th century, a style known as anthropomorphic taxidermy became popular. A 'Victorian whimsy', mounted animals were dressed as people or displayed as if engaged in human activities. An early example of this genre was displayed by Herman Ploucquet, from Stuttgart, Germany, at the Great Exhibition in London.
The division is heir to the Blue Division which fought during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, in particular during the Battle of Bazeilles and the 9th Colonial Infantry Division, part of the Free French Forces, which distinguished themselves in the apprehending of Elba in June 1944 and the disembarking in Provence on 15 August of the same year. The Division then made way to Indochina, where it was placed dormant (without being dissolved) in December 1947. The unit was reactivated in July 1963 in Brittany under the designation of 9th Brigade. On 1 January 1976, the division was baptized as 9th Marine Infantry Division 9e DIMa. Accordingly, the division was attached to the terrestrial intervention force, then the Rapid Action Force (FAR) since 1983. On 1 July 1999, the unit was restructured in a brigade and was designated as 9th Light Armoured Marine Brigade (BLBMa). On 1 January 2013, the brigade was named to the current designation as the 9th Marine Infantry Brigade (9e BIMa). The headquarter staff is stationed in Poitiers since 1 July 2010. The motto of the brigade is "Semper et Ulbique", Latin for "Always and All over". The "9th" illustrated capability on all exterior theatres of operations where France has been engaged since World War II: Indochina, Lebanon, Kuwait, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Congo, Tchad, Ivory Coast.
RNA interference (RNAi) The sequence-specific suppression of gene expression, natural or artificial, by any of a variety of RNA species capable of repressing transcription or translation through a variety of mechanisms. In the traditional usage, RNAi refers to the process by which small interfering RNA (siRNA) or short hairpin RNA (shRNA) molecules, as part of an RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), identify and cleave foreign double-stranded RNA molecules and then use the cleaved single-stranded fragments to hybridize with complementary sequences in target messenger RNA (mRNA) transcripts and thus promote their degradation or otherwise inhibit translation. The term is also sometimes used more broadly to include silencing by antisense RNA (asRNA).
=== Physicochemical factors affecting carbon nanotube toxicity === Numerous studies have identified key physicochemical properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) that influence their biological interactions and toxicological profiles in both in vitro and in vivo systems: Aspect ratio, length, and rigidity: Long and rigid CNTs exhibit increased biopersistence and are strongly associated with fibrogenesis, through the activation of the Smad2/3 and ERK1/2 signaling pathways. Their high aspect ratio and fiber-like morphology, reminiscent of asbestos, can impair macrophage-mediated clearance, and induce inflammation, fibrotic tissue remodeling, granuloma formation, and even DNA damage. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with lengths ranging from approximately 0.5 to 10 μm have been implicated in severe pulmonary conditions, including asbestosis-like fibrosis and mesothelioma. Similarly, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) exceeding 10 μm in length can induce granulomatous lesions. In contrast, shorter SWCNTs—particularly those under 300 nm and well-dispersed—are more readily cleared from the body via renal and biliary excretion pathways. These shorter, purified SWCNTs have demonstrated significantly reduced inflammatory and cytotoxic responses and, to date, lack conclusive evidence of carcinogenicity. Aggregation state: The aggregation state of CNTs refers to their propensity to cluster into bundles or agglomerates, primarily driven by van der Waals forces and electrostatic interactions.

The main proposal is modulation of neurotrophic factors such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor, supported largely by animal experiments. Receptor-level targets have not been firmly established. Most reviews describe the mechanism as only partially characterized.
The compound is registered as a medicine in Russia, so clinical work has concentrated there. Trials elsewhere are few and generally small. This geographic concentration is a recognized limitation in evidence reviews.
Some fraction may reach the central nervous system through olfactory pathways, and this is often cited as the rationale for the nasal route. The size of that fraction in humans is not well quantified. Blood concentrations after nasal dosing are low, which complicates measurement.
一般不建议常温长期保存。多数说明指向 -20 °C 冷冻避光。常温运输通常被视为短期可接受,但会加快降解风险。
